Bromsgrove Rugby Club’s Sportsman Lunch Unites Over 300 Local Business people to hear Rugby World Cup Winner Ben Kay

Bromsgrove Rugby Club hosted a sold-out Sportsman Lunch on Friday 23rd June, bringing together more than 300 local businessmen and women who are enthusiastic supporters of Bromsgrove RFC. The highlight of the event was an entertaining address by Ben Kay, a celebrated rugby 2003 World Cup winner and renowned sports personality.

The Sportsman Lunch, an annual tradition eagerly anticipated by the Bromsgrove community, took place at Finstall Park within their summer marquee overlooking the grounds.

The event showcased the deep-rooted passion and support for rugby within the local business community.

Ben Kay, a former professional rugby player and a respected member of the England national team, was the guest speaker. Known for his exceptional achievements on the rugby field, including being a member of the squad that won the prestigious Rugby World Cup in 2003, Kay shared personal anecdotes from his illustrious rugby career, recounting memorable moments on and off the field.

The Sportsman Lunch was not only an opportunity to celebrate rugby but also a chance for local businesses to network and strengthen connections. Attendees had the chance to engage with like-minded individuals who share a common passion for the sport and a commitment to supporting Bromsgrove RFC.

In addition to Ben Kay’s address, the event was hosted by Phil Steel, best known as a pitch side reporter for BBC Wales before Simon Mark, a Peter Kay tribute act, had them up dancing!

Speaking about the success of the Sportsman Lunch, Dave Wellington, Club President, expressed gratitude to all the attendees, sponsors, and volunteers who contributed to the event’s success. “We are overwhelmed by the tremendous turnout at this year’s Sportsman Lunch and the support shown by our local business community. It is reassuring to witness such a strong bond between sports and businesses in Bromsgrove, funds raised here will enable our club to continue to develop rugby talent at grassroots level & future proof our club for generations to come. We are looking forward to the continued growth and success of the Sportsman Lunch.
Bromsgrove RFC is now busy organising its very own FINFEST, a festival celebrating local street food vendors, a rugby 7’s competition & local musicians.
